Scarborough on the east coast of North Yorkshire is renowned as Britain's first resort. There are two beaches; South Bay with the Spa, harbour and amusement arcades and the tranquil North Bay. The bays are connected by Marine Drive; ideal for a drive or walk, and dominated by the medieval twelfth century Scarborough castle.

The Spa Complex  of theatres provides live entertainment of many varieties and during the summer hosts the Scarborough Spa Orchestra concerts; Scarborough is the only remaining seaside resort in the country with a professional orchestra and from June until September 2017 the Spa Orchestra will celebrate the 105th concert season. 

Events announced for 2017 include: Coastival 2017 on the 18th and 19th of February, The Top Secret Blues Festival in March, Sci - Fi Scarborough on the 8th and 9th of April, Jools Holland on the 18th of May, Al Murray on Saturday the 10th of June, Rhythm of the Dance on Saturday the 29th of July, the Northern Soul Weekender on the 15th - 17th, the annual Jazz Festival from the 22nd - 24th and Joe Longthorne on the 29th and 30th of September, Vintage Fairs on the 30th of April and the 21st of October, and Jimmy Carr on the 10th of November. The 20th Annual Dance Festival will be held during November 2017 

The Stephen Joseph Theatre with its famous theatre in the round offers a wealth of entertainment throughout the year. Summer shows this year include: 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' written by Jim Cartwright, from the 15th of June, 'Taking Steps', written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn from the 13th of July. Also written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn is, The World Premiere of 'A Brief History of Women' from the 1st of September, and from the 14th of September a second world premiere 'Goth Weekend' written by Ali Taylor. There are also; lunchtime shows, play readings, teatime talks, tours of the building, exhibitions in the gallery and live streaming events throughout the year.

Yorkshire County Cricket The Liverpool Victoria county cricket matches played in 2016 at Scarborough's North Marine Road cricket ground were Middlesex 3rd - 6th of July and August 23rd - 26th when the opponents were Nottinghamshire. The North Marine Road ground attracted the largest County Championship crowd of the season for the August fixture. Scarborough is now one of the few remaining out grounds on the first class cricket circuit, and is now the only ground, apart from Headingley, used for home matches for Yorkshire County Cricket. The opponents for the County Championship matches at North Marine Road in 2017 are Somerset from the 3rd - 6th of July and Essex from the 6th -  8th of August.

Scarborough Open Air Theatre shows for 2016 included;Will Young, Status Quo, James Bay, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, The Legends of Pop, Bryan Adams and Simply Red.

Alpamere Waterpark opened in July 2016 with a Wave Pool, Splash and Play Area, a 35C Outdoor Garden Pool and four spectacular slides.

The Books By The Beach annual literature festival will take place in Scarborough from the 26th of April until 1st May 2017.

The P1 Grand Prix of the Sea is scheduled to return from the 1st - 3rd of September. The Superstock powerboat racing and AquaX jet ski race series will again provide marine motorsport action in South Bay. 

Scarborough Seafest Maritime Festival is scheduled for the weekend 21st - 23rd July 2017.

The Goldwings return to Scarborough in 2017 for a Static Display and evening Light Parade around Marine Drive on the 9th of September.

The Royal television programme was filmed in Scarborough and the surrounding district; many of our visitors enjoy walking along the Esplanade to see the South Bay clock tower as featured in the show.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway is just a few miles away at Pickering and visitors can travel to Heartbeat country by steam train. One of the highlights of the 2016 programme was the visit of 60103 Flying Scotsman.

The Forestry Commission Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby is a great day out in every season .There is lovely drive through the forest with plenty of places to stop and take a walk. Or enjoy a 5km run through the forest on Saturday morning hosted by Parkrun. Dalby Forest hosts annual concerts in June as part of The Forestry Commissions live annual music series.  The 2017 Concerts are to be: Rick Astley on Friday the 23rd, and Elbow on Saturday the 24th of June.

The First Tour de Yorkshire took place over the 2015 May Day Bank Holiday weekend. The first stage, on Friday the 1st of May started in Bridlington and finished on Marine Drive, North Bay, Scarborough.
The Second Tour de Yorkshire was held over the 2016 May Day Bank Holiday weekend: 29th April - Beverley - Settle, 30th April Otley - Doncaster, 1st May Middlesbrough - Marine Drive, North Bay, Scarborough.
The Third Tour de Yorkshire took place over the 2017 May Day Bank Holiday weekend. Scarborough hosted the finish on the first day.
