Scarborough on the east coast of North Yorkshire is renowned as Britain's first resort. There are two beaches; South Bay with the Spa, harbour and amusement arcades and the tranquil North Bay. The bays are connected by Marine Drive; ideal for a drive or walk, and dominated by the medieval twelfth century Scarborough castle.
The Spa Complex of theatres provides live entertainment of many varieties and during the summer hosts the Scarborough Spa Orchestra concerts; Scarborough is the only remaining seaside resort in the country with a professional orchestra and from June until September 2018 the Spa Orchestra will celebrate the 106th concert season.
Events announced for 2018 include: The Top Secret Blues Festival in March, Sci - Fi Scarborough on the 21st and 22nd of April, Vintage Fairs on the 6th of May and 28th October. Scarborough Tattoo show on the 19th and 20th of May, The Gin Society Festival on the 1st and 2nd of June, The Proclaimers on the 29th of July, Showaddywaddy on the 25th of August, Ant Middleton on the 15th of September, and the Northern Soul Weekender on the 2nd - 4th of November.
The annual Jazz Festival takes place from the 28th - 30th of September, and the 21st Annual Dance Festival will be held during November

The Stephen Joseph Theatre with its famous theatre in the round offers a wealth of entertainment throughout the year. The shows this year include: Charles Dickens' Hard Times in April and Educating Rita by Willy Russell in May. Summer season shows at the SJT include: Two comedies written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn; The World Premiere of 'Better Off Dead' and a 40th anniversary production of 'Joking Apart', also 'The 39 Steps' By John Buchan, and The World Premiere of 'Build A Rocket' by Christopher York. Yorkshire County Cricket Scarborough is now one of the few remaining out grounds on the first class cricket circuit, and is now the only ground, apart from Headingley, used for home matches for Yorkshire County Cricket. The opponents for the County Championship matches at North Marine Road in 2018 are Surrey from the 25th - 28th of June and Worcestershire from the 19th - 22nd of August.

The 20th Scarborough Seafest Maritime Festival is scheduled for the weekend 20th - 22nd July 2018.
The Goldwings return to Scarborough in 2018 for a Static Display and evening Light Parade around Marine Drive on the 8th of September.
North Yorkshire Moors Railway is just a few miles away at Pickering and visitors can travel to Heartbeat country by steam train. The Royal television programme was filmed in Scarborough and the surrounding district; many of our visitors enjoy walking along the Esplanade to see the South Bay clock tower as featured in the show.
The Forestry Commission Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby is a great day out in every season .There is lovely drive through the forest with plenty of places to stop and take a walk. Or enjoy a 5km run through the forest on Saturday morning hosted by Parkrun. Dalby Forest hosts annual concerts in June as part of The Forestry Commissions live annual music series. The 2018 Concerts are to be: Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott on Saturday the 23rd and George Ezra on Sunday 24th of June.
